Thoughts on picture taking and new glasses

Today was the first time I thought to put these clothing items together and now it is my new favorite outfit. I love when I discover new outfits just by pairing different pieces together that I've owned for a long time!

I am learning that I am such a chicken when it comes to taking outfit pictures. I took these pictures this morning on my back porch when I thought the coast was clear to awkwardly take pictures of myself in front of my tripod. However, as soon as I heard my neighbor upstairs open her door, I immediately grabbed my camera and ran inside. "Why did I do that??!!", I thought to myself. I guess because I'm afraid of someone seeing me, wondering what I'm doing, then asking me why I'm taking pictures, and then having to explain that I write a blog that somewhat focuses on personal style. I don't know why that would be an embarrassing topic to discuss with someone, considering I post these pictures on the internet for anyone to see. I'm just really shy when it comes to talking to people in person!

Does anyone else think taking pictures of yourself is kind of a weird thing? I am definitely no model so I never know how to pose, where to put my hands, if I should smile or not, and then when I do smile it feels so unnatural and fake. Usually the end result is me half smiling with my mouth closed. It helps when someone else is behind the camera, but then I feel bad for making them take pictures of me while I awkwardly pose.

On another note, I recently got new glasses and I love them! I normally gravitate towards darker frames like black, dark brown, or dark red. This time I decided go the complete opposite way on the color spectrum and opt for these clear cat eye frames. I am so glad I did! What do you think? You can't tell from the pictures, but the arms are black and they have cute little silver hearts on the front.

Kimonos and wizards

This outfit has an asian vibe to it. I think it's the combination of a top bun, cat eye eyeglasses, cotton mary janes, and a sheer kimonoesque top. It's mostly the kimonoesque top that does it for me because the sleeves hang very low like an actual kimono or maybe it's more like a WIZARD. A VERY STYLISH WIZARD. Now all I need is my magic wand and an insanely long white beard. I'm not exactly sure what to call this "top". It's not really a blouse or top that I would wear without something underneath and it doesn't feel like a jacket either because it's so sheer and loose. Does anyone know what you would call this thing?

HA! I just realized that I am wearing two different pairs of glasses. I started out with the darker frames then switched to my purplish cat eye frames because I thought it went better with this outfit but now I think the dark frames look better because they stand out more. With the  endless selection of affordable prescription glasses available online, I have collected several pairs of glasses and sometimes it's hard to decide which pair I want to wear. Golly gee, what tough decisions I must make sometimes. It's a hard knock life yall.

I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world. Life is plastic, it's fantastic.

This is probably one of my favorite and most worn dresses in my closet. It is a perfect summer dress and the material is so flowy and breezy. I spotted this dress on a sale rack at Urban Outfitters two winters ago for only $9.99! It is a little too big for me (I wear a medium and it's a large) but for such a low price, I would've been crazy not to get it! I also don't like wearing tight fitting clothes especially when it's hot so I am okay that it fits loosely. Since the colors are dark, it is also really easy to wear in the fall/winter with some tights and a jacket. I just love the cut of this dress  and the purple and green strip down the chest.
You are probably wondering about the title of this post. Well, I spent yesterday evening hanging out with my mom at her house which is the house I lived in between the ages of 15-21. Pretty soon, my mom will be moving so she is in the process of packing everything up.These pictures were taken in my old bedroom which she has already emptied. Six years doesn't sound like that long to have lived somewhere but during those six years, I went through so many changes. It was kinda sad standing in my now empty bedroom that was once covered in posters and things that represented teenage me. It seems like it's been ages since I lived there but it's really only been about two years since I moved out. Being there made me reminisce about the good and bad times I had living there, about teenage angst, and about how much I've grown and changed since I was 15.

Aaanyways, enough with the sappyness. While my mom was emptying my room, she found my little pink suitcase that houses my old barbie dolls and was thoughtful enough to keep them for me instead of giving them away or selling them in a garage sale. I was sooo happy that she kept these for me that I just had to share! I remember spending hours playing with them as a kid, dressing them up, making them "talk", and washing and combing their hair. If I ever have a little girl one day, it will be so cool to be able to hand these down to her.

Do you have any childhood toys that you've come across as an adult?
Check out this sweet barbie flip phone! It still works too!
